pangolin is know as scaly anteater,tenggiling
or pengguling.it has distinctive scales covering
its upper body and tail.there are eight species
of pangolins across Asia and Africa.
pangolins can be found in Malaysia,Myanmar,
Thailand,Laos,Vietnam,Cambodia,Singapore,
Sumatra,Java,Borneo and small islands.they
live in the forests and plantations.pangolins
populations are declining due to deforestation
and poaching.they are docile,slow and
easily caught.
therefore to ensure their suvival,pangolins are
totally protected under Malaysia's Protection of
Wild Life Act 1972.they are considered endangered,under the
World Conservation Union(IUCN)Red List 2008.
pangolins love ants and termites taken from nest in trees,
on the ground or under the ground.they powerful claws to tear open
the insect's nests and lick the contents using their long,stiky tongue.
a pangolin's tongue can be extended up to 25cm.they can't chew because they don't have any teeth.
panggolins haveunique footprints.they curl their claws underneath
their feet of their forelimbs and walk on their knuckles.they
curl themselve into tight balls when threatened.it is quite hard
to unroll them.
YOU CAN HELP TO SAVE PANGOLINS BY:
1-do not buy body parts of pangolins,including their
scales.do not support illegal wildlife trade.
2-tell your family and friends that pangolins are
endangered and need our help to suvive.
3-submit an essay about pangolins and their
uniqueness as one of your school assignments.
